Re: Fire at Roots Hall
Me Nan used to live on Fairfax Dr, a few hundred yards down from Roots Hall. We were staying there for a while and Mum and Dad used to pack me and my 2 sisters off on a Friday night with ten bob to watch the game. It cost 3/- each for us leaving a shilling to buy chips on the way home. Happy days. They had a good forward in them days, last name was Best, but wasn't Clyde or Georgie. Anyone remember him?

It wasn't the actual ground. It was AstroTurf place nearby.

Shame as a nice fire might have brightened roots Hall up a bit.

Re: Fire at ROOTS HALL
Bit of a strange one with us and this so called rivalry with SUFC... it's as one way as you will ever get... like us and THFC but 100 times more one way... I live in the area and have plenty of MATES who are shrimpers and to be fair even half of them cannot tell where this `rivalry' came from.. only thing is I can think of was back in the 70's SUFC played on a Friday night (bit like Tranmere used to) to allow fans of other clubs (mainly your London ones) to pop along and watch them before going to see their own team the next day... we used to do it.. me and my West Ham MATES (14 or 15 years old at the time) would pop over the Hall on a Friday night... good laugh it was ... saw them win the league when they had decent players like Derek Spence, Dave Cuusack, Ron Moody, Merv cawston, Micky Stead and co ... and then we'd pop along to watch the Hammers (if they was at home) the next day... it worked.. they had decent crowds... they then stopped playing on Fridays... so lost a lot of their crowds... so that's the only thing I can think of is that a big contingent of West ham stopped going along to watch the games...

Remember when they beat us 1-0 (Angell) ... next day my desk at work was covered in blue and yellow scarves etc... was even finding post it notes a few months later in folders with Fuck Off back to London you Cockney Cunt written on it !!! Made me laugh... I even had a job interview a few months after and we got talking football.... he was SUFC... and spent the next few mins goading... when we played them in the Cup a few years back got a train up with a couple of SUFC MATES and we sat with some of their chaps.... CS Crew... all young brainless cunts putting it mildly... all saying they had heard that we have teamed up with CFC to take them on... I laughed... a lot... like I said it's the biggest one way make believe rivalry ever...
